Reuters made the mistake of trusting the word of a new hire, a left-wing ideologue disguised as a reporter, one David Cay Johnston. Johnston, of course, was rewarded for his ideological activism by winning a Pulitzer Prize--the ultimate symbol that a reporter is playing ball with the lefties at the Columbia Journalism School, who run the Pulitzer operation. Thanks to Mediate, among others, for helping to point out Reuter's egregious error. And even the liberal-leaning Slate.com jumped in with the full statement from of retraction from Reuters:
Please be advised that the David Cay Johnston column published on Tuesday stating that Rupert Murdoch’s U.S.-based News Corp made money on income taxes is wrong and has been withdrawn. News Corp’s filings show the company changed reporting conventions in its 2007 annual report when it reversed the way it showed positive and negative numbers. A new column correcting and explaining the error in more detail will be issued shortly.
But of course, Johnston will be back at it soon enough--because it’s open season the NWS corporation, as well as Fox. And if it’s open season, then accuracy doesn’t much matter.
